untitledOn 27th October 2016 the Royal Town Planning Institute hosted the ‘London Planning Summit’. Tim Humphries, one of our resident planners, attended on behalf of Fuller Long Limited as one of many specialists from across the planning and construction industry to discuss the prevalent issues affecting development within the capital in the wake of the vote for ‘Brexit’ and the election of the new mayor, Sadiq Khan.

With the new mayor beginning a review of the planning system in London, starting with the first consultation entitled ‘A City for all Londoners’, the day provided a valuable opportunity to discuss future opportunities for development in the Capital.

Following the event, Tim reported that ‘‘it is evident that central government is committed to continuing to ensure that the Green Belt is sacrosanct and that development should be achieved through intensifying and redeveloping existing sites. The main issue is therefore how to accommodate the estimated 75,000 additional residents and associated 55,000 homes required per year, as this target is over twice as many as is currently being built!’’

This demand for housing across the City indicates that there will continue to be a high demand for development and new dwellings to meet future needs. What is clear is that although the Mayor is not committed to highrise development, there will be increased focus on higher density development in the City and along transport nodes in the future with sustainability remaining a top priority.

If you are interested in redeveloping your site for housing and are unsure what options you have, please contact us on 0808 164 1288 for a no obligation conversation with one of our experienced team of consultants.
